The Wilderness Reserve is located in the beautiful Northwoods of Northern Wisconsin's Vilas County, and in south-western Iron County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. 4,884 acres in size, it is one of the largest historic hunting reserves in the United States. There are over 15 miles of High Fence Enclosure at The Wilderness, with a variety of box blinds, ground blinds, and tree stands available. The forests, marshes and uplands are breathtaking and provide a self-contained eco-system for ample hunting opportunities for free roaming Rocky Mountain Elk, Midwestern Whitetail Deer, Grouse and Pheasant. Maintenance/ Support Buildings, Breeding Pens, Feeding Stations, Food Plots, and Thirty Miles of Trails are present. Within the boundaries, you will find 5 private lakes, stocked for fishing. Bear Lake is 13 Acres, 18 Feet Deep, Fish Species: Brook and Brown Trout, Largemouth Bass, and Panfish; Lake Wilderness is 31.8 Acres, 21 Feet Deep, Fish Species: Brown and Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass; Whitetail Lake is 11 Acres, 21 Feet Deep, Fish Species: Brown and Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass; Wolf Lake is 9.6 Acres, 15 Feet Deep, Fish Species: Brown and Rainbow Trout, Silver Musky, Tiger Musky, and Panfish. Elk Lake is 20 Acres, and 8 Feet Deep. Four secluded cabins are on their own picturesque lake and surrounded by nature. Each has awood burning fireplace to enjoy a quiet evening. All cabins come equipped with a 12' fishing boat for your lake enjoyment, camp fire areas, and grills. Bear Lake Cabin, a full log cabin, overlooks Bear Lake and is themost secluded of our cabins. This cabin is a studio with a queen size bed, and sleeps 2-3 guests. Wolf Lake Cabin has two bedrooms with a full living room, a beautiful wood burning fireplace, full kitchen, screened front porch, relaxing hammock, and fire pit. This cabin sleeps 3-4 guests. Whitetail Cabin, a full log cabin, has an open living space with tall beamed ceilings and a beautiful fieldstone fireplace. It has a full kitchen and a large screen porch which extends the living space. This cabin sleeps 6-8 quests. The Main Lodge is 7,000 Square Feet in size and has a large deck facing a lake. It provides a lounging area, bar, game room, private meeting rooms, locker rooms, sauna, and a commercial kitchen. There are three Bedrooms for additional guests. A Main Gatehouse Building has Offices, Caretaker Home, and a 2-Car Garage. A MaintenanceBuilding includes a Game Cleaning Room, Walk-In Cooler, and Bathrooms. There is a 3-Bedroom Bunk House, and Dog Kennels for guests to use. For the avid shooter you will enjoy shooting Trap and Sporting Clays on our secluded Rifle Ranges. Skeet shooting, located next to the hunting lodge, is the perfect group activity foryour hunting vacation! There is an assortment of Non-Hunting outdoor activities available for your enjoyment. Nature hiking and biking is available on miles and miles of trails. Boat, kayak or canoe excursions on the lakes and rivers offer a unique perspective of nature. Swimming in the clear waters, watching paintedturtles sunbathe, and listening to the echoing loon calls are wonderful waterfront opportunities. An array of Northwoods plants and wildflowers blanket the forests, and stunning sunsets and sunrises will delight natureartists and photographers. With no light pollution obscuring your view, star gazing here is fantastic. For Winter adventure, Snowshoeing and cross country skiing are available, and there is direct access from thepreserve to over 600 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Wisconsin's Vilas County, and access to acres of Ottawa National Forest lands in The Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
