Northern Valley Old Tappan is one of NJ's top high schools. The latest ranking in NJ Monthly Magazine had it ranked as the #25 high school in the state of NJ. Northvale was also recently ranked the #8 town in NJ, according to NJ Monthly magazine. It was ranked high because of the excellent school system, the low crime and its proximity to things to do (i.e NYC), and services (i.e hospitals). It is a relatively quiet town, with a library, police, fire department and volunteer ambulance corps. It borders the following towns: Old Tappan (NJ), Norwood (NJ), Rockleigh (NJ) and Tappan (NY). Northvale is close (but not too close) to Route 287, and the Palisades Interstate Parkway. It is equidistant between the George Washington Bridge (about 15-20 minutes north of it) and the Tappan Zee Bridge (about 15 minutes south of it). It is also a convenient commute to New York City, as it is a 35-minute drive to NY Waterway at Port Imperial. You can also take the train from Hillsdale, NJ (which is approximately 10 minutes from Northvale). Northvale is within 15-20 minutes of the Garden State Plaza, Palisades Mall, Riverside Square Mall, and Paramus Park. It is also about 30 minutes from Woodbury Commons.
