Your dream homestead in the middle of a gated, almost-20-acre, organic food forest/ potential permaculture farm. Perfect space for a nature-retreat. The house is a beautiful 3-bedroom, renovated late-1800’s log cabin encased in cedar boards, with a big living room, sunroom, laundry/utility room and beautiful cedar loft with skylights and balcony and “master bathroom” in it. In the center of the house is an amazing wood stove. We also built a beautiful 350-square foot tiny house, tucked away from the main house, with a spring-water hot tub on the balcony overlooking its own little front yard and fire pit, surrounded by trees. There are no permits for the tiny house. It’s built to code, but would need septic installed to become permitted for vacation rental. Across the driveway from the main house, we remodeled an old garage/workshop into a separate 250-square-foot mother-in-law suite we call the “Spring House” because it has a deep, hot spring water soaking tub (and composting toilet). It is also not permitted as a dwelling unit, but could be used as an office, art studio, etc. Finally, there is a tool and wood-shed, with $3000 worth of seasoned hardwood firewood and a great Husqvarna riding lawnmower that are all yours. In addition to all the charming indoor spaces, your home is surrounded by 360 degrees of the most magical food forest. You will feel entirely secluded and immersed in nature, surrounded by song birds, bunnies, squirrels, turkeys, turtles, deer, flowers and fruit… up above it all, hidden in a "hollow" at the end of your quiet farm road. It’s very quiet and dark at night, giving you an amazing view of the stars and fireflies. Several gently sloping acres are covered in a mini orchard including 4 apple trees, 4 mulberry trees, 2 cherry trees, a plum tree, a persimmon tree and baby fig tree. One of the highlights of the property is a mowed old logging road we call "the wineberry trail," which is lined with thousands and thousands of divine-tasting wineberries, and ends with a large round, open hollow at the bottom, where the wildflowers will blow you away. The hollow would be the perfect place to dig a spring-fed swimming pond. In addition to the wineberries, there are TONS of blackberries, black raspberries, elderberries, wild grapes, TONS of walnuts, and masses of medicinal herbs. Up the mountain from the orchard is an old spring we re-tapped and brought down and connected to the "Spring House.” We also use the drinking-water hose from the 500-gallon spring tank to fill our drinking water jugs our hot tubs, which we use to water the garden when we empty them. In the center of the main house is a large woodstove, which provides amazing infrared heat, in addition to a central heat pump and central air conditioning. There is a nice flat, 800-square foot area covered in beach sand right in front of the main house. We paid $6000 to have it cleared and leveled for a 32-foot above-ground pool, which has since been removed. It would make the perfect space for garden beds, a greenhouse, another pool, or even a volley ball court. After living here over 5 years, we can honestly say it feels like living in a little piece of paradise, hidden away in another, better world… Yet somehow you are only 15 minutes from Asheville.
