classic 3-BR ranch with large living room, protected entry, back yard with south and west exposure Neighborhood Description it isn't considered the best part of anchorage but it has made great strides in the last ten years. revitalization efforts include new single-family dwellings (80+ built since 2004), apartment renovations and a new mixed use commercial-residential building under construction. one of anchorage's oldest neighborhoods, subdivided from three homesteads in the 1940s and annexed by anchorage in 1954. eclectic mix of housing still exists from 60+ years. multiethnic mix of residents living in random arrangement. each street has a variety of housing types. it's somewhat unharmonious but seems to work well anyway. three miles from downtown anchorage and near the main road out of town to the north. some of the best ground and soils for buildings in the city -- gravelly, high stable plateau. no damage sustained in 1964 earthquake that devastated other parts of anchorage. some of the lots on the west end of mt view have territorial views of downtown anchorage, cook inlet and alaska range mountains. all of the neighborhood's streets dead end on the north side which backs up to a creek, with railroad tracks and military base on the other side. bike path connections to downtown and points north, east and south. near russian jack springs park and merrill field small plane airport.
