Appalachian Tea House is the private, main floor of a duplex completed in 2024. The upstairs studio has its own separate entrance and driveway up the hill, completely out of sight and mind. It is named for the instant hot water tap installed in the kitchen, and the clean, crisp mountain (tested) well water, and the quiet, reflective vibe of the building and property. Pets are welcome; they're family.
This cozy cottage is located next to a metal Quonset hut, which is my (owner's) residence on the property. However, there are no windows on the Quonset hut facing the Tea House, and I am extremely quiet and used to giving the Tea House its privacy so that guests have a great time and so that my metrics reflect that. The property was professionally designed for maximum privacy and to give the Tea House its large yard and parking area.
The property is peaceful and rural while being close to town (18 minutes to Biltmore Village). The apartment faces away from the main road, looking into nature. It is tucked literally into the hillside, offering a quieter, more secluded feel. The massive concrete walls of the Tea House are forty percent underground, lending a coziness that you simply have to feel to believe.

The intent of the design of Appalachian Tea House is to blend modern simplicity with natural charm. The dark siding up top meets the naked concrete walls below, enveloping you in quietude. The longest wall faces due east and is filled with windows. Tall doors and ceilings hold that light, and lift you up while grounding you inside the massive walls. The dining room and living room seamlessly flow together to meet the kitchen. Vibrant pops of color in the artwork, rugs, and accent walls create an eclectic and welcoming ambience. The concrete floor has radiant heat for warm feet in winter, and thermal mass for a cool experience in the summer.
Outside, the thoughtfully designed landscape invites you out of big glass doors onto a flagstone patio boasting a hot tub and fire pit, both of which are perfect for star gazing. Blueberry bushes are growing behind the berm- feel free!
The bedroom on the due north side of the house is a peaceful retreat designed for ultimate comfort and relaxation. Enjoy a restful night's sleep in the king-size bed, complete with cozy blankets to keep you warm. Blackout curtains and shades ensure the perfect environment, no matter the time of day. A built-in desk with plenty of shelves provides a functional space for work or personal projects, while two full shelves of games are perfect for fun and entertainment. Unwind with a cozy movie night. This space is designed to be your sanctuary.
The spacious bathroom is both functional and relaxing, featuring a dedicated area for laundry. An extra-long tub and shower offer plenty of room to enjoy a refreshing soak. Every plumbing fixture has been thoughtfully selected for both style and convenience. Above the sink, a window allows natural light to fill the space, creating a bright and airy atmosphere, but you have a full length mirror for checking yourself out. Whether you're getting ready for the day or winding down, this spa-inspired bathroom is designed to offer comfort and ease.
Fast internet! Nearby are two of my favorite haunts- High Five Coffee on the rightband riverbank, with the best muffins and biscuits in town; and on the left bank, Drip Sauna and cold plunge.
