    Mid-Century Modern home built in 1953 on the market for the first time ever. This is truly a piece of architectural history. The original/only owner, Garland Smith, commissioned Architect Robert H. Longstreet to design this home in 1951. The clean lines and Roman laid brick (lean, horizontal) style are reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright. The house was even featured in South Carolina Magazine's Architectural Issue in April 1955 for it's revolutionary concept of combining the kitchen and den into one flowing room (think open floor concept today) and stunning interior brick work, including the brick floors. The house sits on the northern end of a 2.98 acre parcel and has no side neighbors. While brick dominates the exterior, it doesn't overshadow the incredible use of redwood trim, soffits and vertical accents. The rareness of that material and craftsmanship have to be seen to be appreciated. There's a 2 car carport and 2 large patios on either end of the home with one being off the screened porch and the other off the owner's suite. The kitchen has incredible potential. The cabinets were built on site from pine, the floors are brick, and the copper hooded fireplace is a centerpiece of the den/informal dining area. The formal dining area is located just off the kitchen and provides stunning built in cabinetry made of Honduran mahogany. The large piece of driftwood that hangs on the formal dining room brick wall was was a gift given to the owners by a friend many years ago. This driftwood was from a beach nobody had heard of at the time...that beach is now Hilton Head Island. The main living area is a huge sunken living room that is over 21'X18 with 12'+ tall ceilings. This room has a gas fireplace, direct access to the screened porch and nearly floor to ceiling windows on the southern corner/walls. The remainder of the home is 3 large bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The owners suite and additional half bath were a rarity of the era. With exception of the foyer paneling, all of the paneling in the home is solid pine. This home needs some updating but would provide a look and feel that cannot be duplicated. The location is close to everything and still incredibly private in it's cul-de-sac. A buyer could keep the entire 2.98 acres or divide and sell off lots, if desired. The home is on septic tank but property is located in city limits so sewer could be available.
