No. Zillow Preview is available only through brokerages that have partnered with Zillow for this program. Agents interested in using Zillow Preview should speak with their brokerage leadership about participation. Send them this page to make sure they sign up.
Zillow Preview listings appear on Zillow and Trulia, as well as the participating brokerage and agent’s own websites. This ensures early and broad exposure on a public marketplace while maintaining broker branding.
There is no fixed default duration. The length of the Zillow Preview period is determined by the agent and depends on: the seller’s strategy, the agent’s marketing plan, and local rules and requirements.
Yes. Zillow Preview gives agents flexibility to adjust pricing during the pre-market period.
Because the listing is publicly visible and generates engagement signals, agents can use real-time buyer response to refine pricing and strategy before the listing goes fully active.
Zillow Preview is designed to operate within local MLS frameworks, and brokers and agents are responsible for understanding and complying with their local rules.
During the Zillow Preview period, if the agent and seller choose to display Days on Zillow on the Zillow Preview listing, that count will continue once the listing becomes active in the MLS where allowed under local MLS rules.
If the agent and seller choose not to display Days on Zillow during the Zillow Preview phase, Days on Zillow will begin when the listing goes fully active in the MLS where allowed under local MLS rules.
Once active, standard MLS and Zillow display practices apply.
Yes. Zillow Preview is structured to operate within local MLS frameworks, and brokers and agents are responsible for understanding and complying with their local rules.
If a local MLS does not permit public pre-marketing, agents and brokers should follow that policy and refrain from publishing a listing in Zillow Preview.
In markets where certain forms of pre-marketing are permitted, Zillow Preview provides a way to bring listings to a broad consumer audience earlier in the process, consistent with local MLS rules.
With Zillow Preview, buyers can request tours in advance so they’re scheduled for on or after the listing's go‑live date.
“Coming Soon” is a status in some MLSs which is defined by local MLS rules. Whether those listings appear on portals - and how widely they’re visible to consumers - varies by market. In a growing number of markets, the public cannot see pre-market listings – including “Coming Soon” listings.
Zillow Preview brings these listings into the open, making them visible to consumers while working within MLS frameworks and supporting brokers and agents in complying with local rules. It also gives participating brokerages a way to share upcoming listings earlier on Zillow and Trulia, reaching the largest online audience of U.S. home shoppers.
Zillow will continue to display MLS “Coming Soon” listings when they’re made available through IDX or VOW. As always, agents and brokers are responsible for understanding and complying with their local MLS rules.
If an MLS doesn't allow any public pre-marketing, agents should follow that policy and should not publish a listing in Zillow Preview.
Zillow Preview creates a distinct, public pre-market window on Zillow and Trulia before a listing goes fully active.
A participating brokerage submits the listing directly to Zillow, and it appears publicly on Zillow and Trulia during the Preview period. Buyers can see the home on these sites and express interest before it becomes active.
When the listing is active in an MLS and follows the usual distribution path in that market, it will no longer be in Preview listing status.
Zillow Preview is structured to operate within local MLS frameworks, and brokers and agents are responsible for understanding and complying with their local rules.

Zillow’s Listing Access Standards are still in effect. We’ve updated them to reinforce what we’ve focused on from the beginning: preventing listings from being kept out of the broader market. You can read more here.
When a buyer engages with a Zillow Preview listing, they can either contact the listing agent or request a tour.
Choosing “Contact Listing Agent” connects the buyer directly with that agent. Choosing “Request a Tour” routes the inquiry through Zillow’s buyer agent network to schedule a tour once the listing is active. If the buyer already has a Zillow partner agent, the request goes to that agent.
This approach gives buyers choice while balancing direct agent contact with a reliable scheduling experience.
